Is the Women’s Movement still moving forward? Remember reading about Women’s Movement and Suffrage? Were you aware that first official meeting to give women their rights was in July 1848 in Seneca Falls, NY? The official Women’s Rights Movement ended in 1920 when The official ratification of the Amendment occurred. Do you feel that all Women have their rights and are not being held back by their sex and gender? That all women are treated the same as men? That all women get the same chances, pay and access of their counterparts?
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal.”Elizabeth Cady Stanton
The pressures of society have not changed over the years. However our ability to change and learn from our environment has. We now have access to almost anything in the world that we want. Resources at our fingertips that we have not had previously. Just think of the traction the women in 1848 could have had with our resources? How far they could have went in liberating women? It amazes me how far we have come as a world just since I have been alive. I would love to spend another lifetime here and see what is to come. One thing I can tell you, without a doubt, is that the one thing holding women back is herself. The next item would be your friends.
What exactly do I mean? Is this an exact science? I will tell you and no not a science, only my thoughts. What I mean is that you have to put yourself in the positions that you want to be in. If it doesn’t work, then learn from your mistakes and try again. That is what life is….. mess up and try again, repeat. That is why resources are so important. Your tribe of women are your resources. That is why our groups are so important. Reading and discussions help your mind grow and encourages conversation.
“We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as women and take the lead.”
I sat in dead end jobs like a pie maker at a pizza place and a waitress, both of which I loved so much! I had such a great time there! Partied all of the time! Met some cool people. I made no money, struggled every damn day to live, eat and pay bills. What I did was made a decision. I decided to go to school, then I went further, and further. I had management positions at the pizza place and at a clothing store previously, so that set me apart from others. I worked my booty off and tried to do what is right with my family. Years of working nights, straight weekends, and juggling two -three jobs was what I needed to get where I needed.
You see, you will always have hiccups in the paths you take, you will always have failures, and you will always have victories. You just have to learn from the hiccups and failures and celebrate the victories! Then repeat until you are where you want to be. I find such fulfillment in both of my careers. I couldn’t imagine life without either. However, I would not have gotten here without my tribe. All it takes is one person. One woman to make a difference in another woman’s life. This is what I am saying… we need each other and we need to be there for each other. One moment.. one single moment is all it takes.
I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.Maya Angelou
I have had so many moments where women were hateful to me when all I was looking for was guidance, help or a friend to talk to. I did not give up, though I wanted to. I kept on. If I am not going to fight for me then who is?
So I ask again… Is the Women’s Movement still Moving?
Iti is up to us to keep it moving. We must support each other and raise each other up. Help women in need. Provide guidance. Sometimes just that small push to gain momentum is all anyone needs. Let’s keep the Women’s Movement going!
You can join our private group on Facebook for women who want to empower others. It is a small group where we can share ideas, ask questions and discuss things that we normally cannot.
I help to empower women through my groups and my photography. You can check out my gallery here.
