If you have not been following my blog this year, you will need to know that I have made it my goal to be a healthier me this year. My plan is to just feel good. Easy enough. Unless you are over forty and have other issues, like my fat does not want to leave my freaking body!!! I mean come on already! My physician tells me that it all comes down to intake/calories vs ouput/exercise. I get it… I really do… but I think I may be addicted to sugar. Not sure why, but I think I am. When I smoked, I did not have time for sugar because I spent time with those nasty cigarettes. Gross. I can not believe I did that and found it enjoyable for a bit.
Anyway, my hubby and I are on this mission. We are planning to get back in hiking condition for an RV trip out west this year. I am so frigging excited! We are planning on hitting Las Vegas, Grand Canyon & Utah galore! Photography, hiking, climbing, discovering, and embracing this beautiful world. I just want to be able to do it all without feeling horrible. So, we have been making some life changes. Regular workouts occurring at least 5 times a week. Healthier eating by increasing protein, decreasing carbs and choosing healthier options. Of course we have one cheat every week. We are also using weekly measurements to help track our accomplishments.
So far, so good. I have lost 15 lbs and hub has lost a lot also. We have so much more energy. I absolutely love it. We are taking vitamins regularly and I feel like it is really improve our immunity. Much of our exercise has been inside due to the weather. Since we are cheap axes, he uses the elliptical and I bought a bicycle lift, so that I can use my outdoor bike indoors. I have to say it is the best money I have spent on exercise ever. We had a respite from the cold this week and temps were up to the 70’s! Amazing and weird. But we took advantage and took a walk. We have a usual loop of 4-5 miles, depending on our route. These routes have a usual elevation gain of 250-350 ft. Great for us, because we use different muscles.
This morning I finished my homework and did my laundry, then told the hubster that we should go for a walk this morning. I thought it was just going to be brisk at about 35 F. I was wrong. A snow shower came through. It was pretty awesome. As we were walking, the wind picked up and snow increased size and volume. Beautiful. After about 2 miles in, the snow started sticking and visibility was decreasing. Too late at that point. Did I mention that our path is on the road? Yep. Winding road with hills. The last half was the same as the first, but slippery. Over an hour later, we made it home. Wet with sweat and snow. We couldn’t stop smiling. What a blast!
I am quite certain that all of the people driving past us thought we had lost our minds, but it was amazing. I can see the pull about hiking up mountains. The cold and snow was exhilarating. Regarding the title… I say that we are a little of both, enthusiasts and crazy!
